Website Undergoing Some Modifications…

Just a note to our Fishermen’s Net family.  I (Heather) made some major changes in our website today that caused some temporary problems.  We are gearing up for increased features for the future with secure pages for online giving.  This caused a glitch in how the website is now treating some images.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.  I will take the next couple of days to resolve this problem.  Our calendar should be working and our home page still has some up-to-date information that you want to read!  Thank you for your patience!!

Casting Crowns Bus Trip…Coming March 31st!

CASTING CROWNS COME TO THE WELL TOUR
:  Join Glorify Him Christian Tours & Travel for a charter bus trip to ride the famous Pittsburgh Duquesne Incline, early supper at the Spaghetti Warehouse (at your own cost) and then for a Christian concert with Casting Crowns Come to the Well Tour. Casting Crowns is one of the top
Christian bands, with more than 14 GMA Dove Awards, three Grammy Awards, and
have sold more than 8.2 million albums to date. The Christian faith is filled with  references to water, so it’s only natural Casting Crowns would borrow that theme for their fifth studio album, encouraging us to let the living water of Christ come and well up until it spills over onto everyone around us. Casting Crowns will be performing at the Console Energy Center in Pittsburgh with Matthew West & Royal Tailor. Concert tickets are very expensive is why this bus trip is more costly than the others. Bus will depart from Kings Restaurant in Barkeyville. If we have enough people from other areas we can make additional stops. Hope you can join us!  For more information call (814) 385-6135.

Computer Classes for Church Workers and LayPersons Coming Soon!

I’ve been promising for quite some time that computer training classes for Church Workers and Lay Persons were coming…well we have officially put them on a schedule in 2012 with more to come.  Our concept is to create a “Boot Camp” that will work tirelessly to get you more well-versed in the technology that seems to be everywhere around us even in the church so that when you are done you can be productive in your area of ministry.  Our first camp entitled “I HAVE A COMPUTER NOW WHAT” is for the basic user who just wants to manage their computer more productively.  Topics that will be covered include organizing your files and folders, using programs to their fullest extent, designing a church bulletin and newsletter with Microsoft Word 2010 , mail merge, etc… all geared for the church ministry worker.   Another boot camp entitled “MY CHURCH NEEDS A WEBSITE…WHERE DO I START?” will help a non-website designer work in a logical sequence while designing their first website with WordPress.  Brochures are available for your local church to distribute if you so choose or you can check out the information on our website.   All training is being done by Heather Mohnkern, a seasoned instructor, who has spent the last 24 years in the corporate training markets.  She desires to use her gifts and skills to furthering the kingdom of God and equipping the believers for service.  She is also the Executive Director of Fishermen’s Network.  She will make you feel comfortable as each session begins with a word of prayer, seeking God in the training process.

Clarification of March for Life Bus Trip

Sunday, January 22
– is the bus trip from this area to Washington DC for the March for Life.  The bus will pickup riders at the Oil City Knights of Columbus at 11:45 pm.
There will also be a pickup at Franklin Knights of Columbus and again at King’s Restaurant in Barkeyville.  Return will be approximately midnight on same day.  The cost is $40 per seat and reservations are needed by January 12.  Please call Judy Anderton at 814-676-6288 for reservations and questions.

This trip is a labor of love and a sacrifice of time but for an extremely good reason.  It is important that Christians take a visible stand for the lives of the unborn unable to speak for themselves.  If I wasn’t facing knee surgery soon, I would be going myself.  I look forward to joining the group in the future when things are healed up here on the home front.

I have heard the response this year has been low.   This is not a good sign.  So if you are thinking about it, please let July know asap so she knows how to proceed.   If you would like to go but are unable to afford it, please let me know and if you will go in my stead, you can have my seat.    Thanks!

Lila Rose to Speak in the Area

Saturday, January 7, 2012 – People for Life’s 34th Annual Pro-Life Prayer Breakfast
in Erie at the Avalon Hotel, 16 W. 10th Street, in downtown Erie. Special Guest speaker will be Lila Rose, an amazing young pro-life activist who has been getting a lot of national attention lately because of her undercover investigations of Planned Parenthood. She is just 23 years old, but she is already a nationally- recognized pro-life leader and a very persuasive spokesperson for the pro-life cause. Her undercover videos and audio recordings have exposed Planned Parenthood’s willingness to engage in reprehensible practices such as the cover up of sexual abuse, acquiescence to racism, assisting sex traffickers, and disseminating medical and other kinds of misinformation.  Reservations prices are as reasonable as ever: only $12.50 for teens and adults and only $6.50 for kids 12 to 3. Reservations for kids under 3 are free. This promises to be a really special event.

People for Life’s annual Erie March for Life will take place on January 14, and our 39th annual March for Life Bus Trip will depart for Washington, DC on the evening of Sunday, January 22.

It’s Almost Here

The event that we’ve been working so hard for is almost here….JOY An Irish Christmas Concert.

The Oil City Ministerium and local area churches have come together to provide an remarkable Advent Celebration at the Oil City High School Auditorium on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m.   The concert will feature Keith & Kristyn Getty.   Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Musically speaking, Joy – An Irish Christmas is an all-out seasonal festivity fueled by an eclectic range of influences. “It’s a contemporary fusion of Irish and world folk music: the Elizabethan lute, flamenco guitar, chamber choir, classical orchestra and American bluegrass instruments, to name a few.”

The couple’s critically acclaimed 2007 stateside debut, In Christ Alone, featured the extraordinary Celtic-flavored title-cut co-penned by Keith and acclaimed British songwriter Stuart Townend; an instant classic that has been recorded by numerous artists and quickly taken root in churches around the globe.  Awaken The Dawn, the Gettys’ 2009 follow-up, further endeared their modern hymns to audiences both here and abroad.  In recent years, they have shared their music at Franklin Graham crusades, the GMA Dove Awards, and performances at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall, among other noted platforms and international tours.

With the Gospel story anchoring such a broad canvas of sound, the passion and exuberance of the music most certainly honors the message.  It’s an experience the couple, along with their acclaimed band, is anxious to present to audiences around the U.S. during this year’s multi-city Christmas tour.  “There is such enjoyment and excitement in celebrating the most improbable thing that is the incarnation of God on earth,” Keith says.  “In this season, bringing the Good News in the form of music is an opportunity for us to transport audiences into our living room each night, giving them a taste of Christmas in Ireland.  In offering new songs, as well as singing together ‘Joy To The World,’ ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,’ ‘What Child Is This?’ and other hymns and carols that evoke memories of Christmases past, it’s a humble reminder that the Savior’s birth unites all generations in chorus together.”

In short, Joy – An Irish Christmas finds Keith & Kristyn Getty embracing the music of their heritage while adding an important new chapter of rich modern hymns to the story of Christmas in song.  And, as they simultaneously embark on the life-changing journey of parenthood, a newfound understanding of true Christmas joy is revealed.  Proof indeed that it truly is all about a baby.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.fishermensnet.org calling 814-437-5355 until November 28. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $12.00.

If you have not already ordered, we encourage you to do so soon!
